Don't pay $50 for this camera My main point in writing this review is that you can get this camera for much, much cheaper by buying it used or elsewhere. The Holga is fun and I know many people who swear by it. While I personally have never been extremely into lomography/"plastic fantastic" cameras, if you are this is a good camera and the advantage of using medium format film is wonderful. Also there are scores of websites that will tell you all the ways you can modify your Holga. So have fun! But seriously, there's almost no reason why not to buy this item used. I would not pay more than $20 for it. Simple fun photography I've been seriously into photography since 1999. I've had a few pictures published in magazines and I've even had some embassies buy my work. There are days when my photography feels like work and kind of stresses me out. Well I've found my little fix for days like that. The Holga camera's are perfect for fun photography. My best personal photo's have come from a Holga and it was all when I was just flipping away and not worrying too much about the composition of the shot or the exposure. The color flash adds another spin to an already fun camera. I love to use the flash in the daytime up close to my subjects (The blue flash on the beach gives an awesome feel to a photo). My only complaint is the hassle of loading and unloading the film and the cheap feel to it, but then again it's a 'toy' camera so I guess that's part of the experince. I recomend this (more so with the 35mm version) to anyone just looking to bring fun back into their photography. Holga fan!! These camera's are great for enthusiasts! I gifted my roomate this one for christmas (as I already own one, and she borrows it from time to time). We are both photo majors, and it's easy to get swept up in new technology. Sometimes its benificial to go back to your roots ;)

worth every penny! Camera LOMOgraphy

a friend of mine and i were talking about how much we wanted holgas but couldn't find them... so when i saw this on here i immediately bought two kits, one for me and one for her. and YES IT COMES WITH THE CAMERA. i just wanted to say that. but the whole package is great! comes with film, batteries, a poster extolling the virtues of lomography, a mini-handbook for the camera itself, incredibly easy to use. and what i think really makes the package is the "HOLGA - life through a plastic lens" book, with Holga enthusiasts, experts and aficionados giving you tips and sharing their images. Such a charming book, breathtaking pictures, and inspiring because it shows you what this cheap little thing is capable of. and they also give you cool little tricks for modifying the camera and different effects you can get and so on. so... yeah. Buy it!

Great Product - Great Deal

This is a great starter-kit into the world of the Holga/Toy/Lomography. The kit has everything to get started, and the book included is some nice eye-candy to get some ideas as to what this plastic camera is capable of. It's also a lot cheaper here than in most retail stores you might find in the downtown area of your city...ie: rhymes with Gurban Routfitters..;) Great buy, great deal. Holgas rock!

Holga for life!!!, Camera LOMOgraphy

I love my Holga. But buyer beware as soon as you start using one lomographic camera something strange takes over you. You begin to start craving more lomographic cameras. I currently own the holga the supersampler and an LCA. But it doesnt stop there, you begin to realize that there are hundreds of other cameras you can modify out there in attics and garages and you start roming the flea markts for old kodak brownies and other cameras you can change to take different sizes of film and use those too. Now i have 14 cameras and i keep at least one on me at all times, another side effect of lomoitis. the book that comes with it is really good too. Great photos, great ideas to get you started.

Worth every buck! Lomography

This camera is the best money can buy, it does not need batteries and after a couple of rolls youll get to "feel" the two avilable shutter speeds (1/2, 1/60), and focal length; you will be ready to go. Excellent for landscapes with almost any distortion on the image you can capture up to 120 degrees, you can shoot something around 20 panoramic pictures in a normal 35 film roll. Beautiful hyperfocal length. You wont miss any other shutter speed or aperture values, you migth miss that there is no way to attach it to a tripod (that would be nice) but i think you can figure out something. The only thing better would be her sister the Horizon Perfekt but take a look at the price on that one! The Horizonb Kompakt can make it happen, doesn't matter if you are an amateur or a profesional photographer.

one of my favorite toys

i first heard about holgas about a year ago. i'm a photo student and really like unusual cameras. i ended up ordering a woca which is made by the same company and is basically the same camera but with a glass lens instead of the plastic lens on the holga. i like my woca so much that i'm thinking about ordering a holga as well. i've heard that sometimes the plastic lens distorts the image in interesting ways, something that the glass on the woca doesn't do as much. the glass lens actually is quite crisp when the focusing is just right, did you hear that you have to guess on the focusing? thats part of the fun though. either way these cameras are fantastic and both yield interesting results. but if you like perfection and consistancy in you photos don't get one of these, no wait, get one of these. it will change you for the better. and by the way, get one with a flash, these flashes are brighter than the sun. they are fun for flashing your friends and disorienting them for a good thirty seconds. (if you are a kid reading this, only flash your friends when your parents aren't around or you will probably loose your holga) plus the flash is essential if you are going to use this camera indoors, otherwise you will get thin negatives. enjoy.

Worth every cent

First off, the Holga is awesome. Its shots are really in a class of its own. I've done both personal and editorial work with this camera - and its images are fantastic. They have real character, great color, and a romantic feel. It is, hands-down, my favorite 120 camera.

The package has really great content. The "Mes Vacances Avec Holga" photo book is loaded with beautifully printed shots. The instructions are indispensable, and the tape, film, and batteries are certainly useful. If you're new to Holga, or buying this as a gift, it's a wonderful package.

Things like taping the sides, shoving cardboard under the film roll, and mod'ing the camera are all part of the charm. Ultimately, the Holga is a dead-simple piece of machinery. Play with it and experiment. If you want a serious and complicated 120 camera, there are plenty of used and new choices out there.
If you want a simple one that takes amazing photos like nothing else, get the Holga.

yes, the single holga cameras can be found cheaper.
but with this starter kit you get the best photo book of holga photography, a roll of medium format film, the flash version of the holga camera, batteries, black tape to play with the lightleaks and most of all the best tips on how to use and work with the camera. if you are on a tight budget, yes you can find the bare camera cheaper, if you want to get content, explanation and a hell of a lot of inspiring pictures, this package is a really good price value. it is also the perfect gift for your best friend to finally get started on that medium film photography.

Crazy and Fun

I love the Supersampler. I definitely prefer its panoramic format and much sharper image rendition to the original four-lensed Actionsampler. It's really fun to play and experiment with. Be sure to try the extreme close-up effect!

The rip-cord advance is a cool feature, but does require some care. If you use it normally, it should last without a problem. My Supersampler is going on 10 rolls without a hitch.
However, if you yank the thing, it will definitely come out. Be sure not to hand this camera to any young children that don't know any better.

Oh, and use 400 ASA film. The shots are bright and colorful, with almost no blurring. It's really best for sunny days.

Love it

Had 800 speed film that came with it. Very cool but it's lomography so every shoot doesn't come out perfect. It's a novelty and it's not - it makes art. BTW - I have only shot a few rools with mine but when I shoot some 100 speed I relized that the manufactured recommened HIGH LIGHT is a MUST. I did all my shots outside, but in shadows or not under the direct sun shoots were very dark! Right now I have 400 black and white in my super sampler....check my website one day they will be on there!

This little camera is a very simple and straightforward device of instant fun - it's fun to use, people are always asking you questions about it, it doesn't weigh much so you can take it anywhere and best of all: your pictures are always surprising!Don't expect it to take ordinary pictures, don't demand every photograph to be perfect. To get the best idea of what this camera is all about, visit the manufacturer's website because they have minisites for each of their products).
I got one of these supersamplers a few months back. Yes, you do need lots of light. Yes, you should take care not to pull the cord too hard (if it feels like it's jammed, you're probably just out of film).
You should also make sure to catch (people in) action or create actions yourself. Step closer to your subject while shooting the picture, have someone twist around for you, turn your wrist so the camera itself turns around while shooting, ... experiment!!
And that's the fun! Your interaction with others, their reactinos when they see the pictures, and just the tiny movement of pressing that button...

I love my lomo!

This camera is a lot of fun. The one thing is you do need the 800 ASA, otherwise pictures are too dark.
This camera is all about being suprised at what you get, just point it arround, move it and shake it.By the way, mine was soak in water, and I lost the current film, but then it dried and it's working perfectly. So it's ok to take it sailing : )

A lot of fun. This camera is the updated version of the Lomographic Society's action sampler. I have them all, I have to admit, I am an absolut Lomo fanatic. Finally I am a good fotographer!!! This camera is much more sturdy and more reliable than the first version of the action sampler. I love to take my kids and dog out in the fields and jump around taking pictures of action and motion. Or take it in the city and take pictures criusing along the boulevards. Thanks Lomographic Society, you brought the joy back in my once upon boring X-mas and Easter shots.

Fun item,

This camera is fun but remember...it's basically a toy. I bought it for snowboarding trips buy I don't know if it would function too well after the inevitable falls! Now I use it when ever i'm out and about. Mostly park activities, kids, pets, subway trains and street scenes.
Experiment with manual zoom (your arm) and with different film speeds. Fun is what matters!

That's the most important thing to consider if you're thinking about purchasing this camera: it's just plain fun to use.

If you know anything about lomography, you know that you shouldn't expect crystal clear, perfectly sharp pictures from a product like this. It is, by all conventional standards, a very crappy camera. Mine seems to have only one of its four lenses in anything close to good focus, it's hard as heck to load the film, and the images it produces look a little more like paintings than actual photographs.

But that's pretty much what I expected -- and wanted -- when I bought it. With its rather useless "viewfinder," I quickly learned to just let go, aim roughly, and shoot. Sometimes I completely missed my subject, but those pictures often turned out to be among the most interesting that I took.

I stopped worrying, and I just had fun. I never had to worry about changing batteries or getting things in focus or aperture settings or shutter speeds. I just took pictures.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

One final note, though: The product description states (as of writing) that the camera comes with two rolls of film. Mine however, only came with one.

outdoor pictures come out really good. not really for indoor use, even if you do have good lighting. you just have to be careful when you take it to the beach and trying not to touch the lens.

Many people will complain that this camera is junky or imprecise, made only of plastic parts. I advise you now that not only is that the point of this little beauty, it is also what makes it so much fun!
The images that this camera produces are distorted and dream-like (an overused term, you will come to find, in reference to all things lomographic) and give you pictures reminiscent of your grandparents' photo albums.
One of the great things about the camera is the number of things you can do to it to experiment with your images. It definitely allows you more freedom to adjust and modify than, say, a thousand dollar digital would. Being that it's small and plastic you can feel free to do just about anything to it, as picking up another one is fairly cheap and easy to do.
Despite being made of plastic, these things are tough. I took mine overseas to Japan for 2 weeks and dragged it on planes, trains and everywhere. It uttered not a single complaint and kept snapping along, resulting in some lovely images that will always bring back fond memories of places like Kyoto and Okinawa. It held up in a suitcase and a messenger bag, being knocked around during the rush hour commute in Tokyo.
The main downside to these cameras is the amount of prep work necessary to keep them in good shape before use. Spraying down the inside with black paint to keep the reflections at a minimum and taping down the outside to ensure the back doesn't come off were time consuming, but also make sure that I'll have the camera for many years to come. For the record, the back doesn't come off of my personal Holga unless I bear down on the metal clips holding it in place. If they get loosened over time they can always be bent back down again with pliers to correct the issue, a response to some who have complained of that. Still, better safe than sorry, I tape mine shut with gaffer's tape and seal the cracks to prevent unintentional light leaks.
This is a piece that you'll feel a lot more free to mess around with in terms of shots. It will also allow you to hone the basic skills of light metering, distance, exposure, film speed, etc. that are often taken care of for you in both digital and recent 35 mm film cameras. Getting the basics down allows you to turn to other tools of the trade and improve your images as a result, so for that reason alone I adore this thing. I take it with me when I go anywhere these days and have been pleased with everything I've attempted. From quick snapshots to time-lapses of the moon, it has delivered what I've envisioned each time... unless I was in low light and forgot the flash.
As an aside, unless it is very dark, the colored flash on this doesn't come out very pronounced and will only give a slight tinge of that color to the overall image. I stick with yellow or white when I need to use the flash, as the blue has tended to create an overall dark image and red just turns everything a touch pink. Still, I enjoy the options.
If you are looking in to Lomography as a hobby or simply want to add another tool to your photography repertoire, I would highly recommend this device. It is easy to use and maintain, it will force you to see your subject matter differently, allow you to see photographic evolution in action and also give you something unique that not every photographer already has in their bag.
In addition there are several different accessories to use with the Holga such as filters, shutter cables and fisheye lenses to let you play with your images.
Also, you can't beat the fact that it is bright cherry red and looks like an item to just goof around and have fun with. All the seriousness of black and silver devices go right out the window.

Best 35mm. ever
I am a professional photographer and have been exploring the use of toy cameras for quite a few years now. I have fallen in love with my numerous Holgas and decided to give the Lomo L-CA a try, I was not disappointed at all. It is a great little camera that is nearly bullet proof. I carry it with me every where I go and so far (about 60 rolls) it has not failed me once. The automatic shutter speed is a fantastic aspect of this camera and nearly always produces exactly what I feel that I need for a specific situation. Taking multiple exposures is also incredbibly easy with this camera and I find myself using it for that more than anything else simply because it is so easy. Also the wide angle lens is a great help when you are shooting from the hip and or dont have time to look in the view finder, in fact I almost never look through the view finder.
Overall it is a great little camera that I would recommend to anyone of any skill level.

Fun camera,great features
I absolutely do not regret buying my lc-a+ and recommend it to anyone wanting to try shooting a film camera. It goes with me everywhere and I take pictures of whatever catches my eye (it's a good idea to load up on cheap bulk film for this reason!). I've never been much for photography, but that's changed since purchasing the lc-a. I honestly find myself more aware of my surroundings, even when I don't have my camera with me. Some features not to be ignored: long exposures, multiple exposures, rear curtain flash (hotshoe!).

If you haven't had fun with film lately, pick one of these up and go out and start shooting. It takes any speed of film (up to 1600) and does a fantastic job of auto exposing it. Even if it's pitch black outside and snowing, as long as you have a tripod, just press that button down, and when it finally goes "click" you'll have a perfectly exposed shot. The zone focusing system takes a little getting used to, espically for us Yanks, since it's in meters, but just put a little piece of tape over it with the imperial equivalent, and you're golden.

This product does exactly what it says it will. It protects the Lomography fisheye camera so that you can use it underwater.

While I did not test out the maximum depth they claim, it worked like a charm for me as deep as 20 feet in both fresh and salt water locations. I was even able to change rolls of film on the boat ride between snorkeling locations without any leaking issues. I highly recommend using the flash and the provided flash diffuser unless you are in a shallow pool on a bright sunny day. The light loss even with ISO 400 film was significant even a few feet under water in the area I was snorkeling in.

If you are going on vacation and looking for a fun camera that will confuse the lab techs and make all the locals ask "what is that?" than this is certainly a great purchase. I had a blast with this camera, and even though I shot over 900 frames on my D300, some of my favorite images from the trip were from this camera. It's just fun!

Good Marine Case

The marine case for the Lomo fisheye camera is perfect for basic flash and non flash pics underwater for single exposure. It is limited to single exposure pics but I think that's based on the camera design itself and less on the case. I have used this on a couple 90ft dives in Mexico (a little beyond its recommended specs of 65ft) and it performed just fine, no leaks or water damage. My wife and I also use this in the pool and any activity that might include "excessive water". My only request for future would be a good adjustable rubber strap and ability to use double exposure.

Tape Tape and Tape moreLike with so many holga's they all have there own light leakproblems, With 35mm film light leaking in to much will ruin the filmcompletely. The Best Filter System for HolgaI wish they had this system for every camera that I use. It letsyou use square filters, or you can cut your own out of plastic, glass,or overhead projector transparency material. The most useful of thefilters in this kit is the yellow filter, which warms up a scene quitenicely. Good fun for the creative folks out there...Ipurchased the Polaroid PoGo today and have done a fair bit of "playing"with this compact little printer over the past couple of hours. Infact, I have already used the first package of 10 sheets of Zink (ZeroInk) paper that come with the printer. So my first recommendation is;if you are planning on buying a PoGo, I highly recommend getting extrapaper so you can get through your "testing" phase without having topurchase more paper. However, don't go crazy and buy too much, thereare expiration dates on the paper which may affect your picture qualityif you take to long to "expose" (print) them.Connectivity:I have tested the Bluetooth capabilities with my Motorola Q, LaptopComputer (Bluetooth enabled), my desk-top Windows Vista computer (withRadio Shack "Bluespoon" Bluetooth 2.0 adaptor added) and my PictBridgecapable Canon Powershot A 640 camera (directly connected to PoGo viaUSB cable) and the printer worked like a charm in all of the abovetests!Speed of Printing:Print time is about 1 minute per photo. There was no noticeablechange in print speed with any of the tests I performed. Using theBluetooth (wireless) connection or plugging in your USB cable directlyfrom your camera did not seem to make any difference as to how fast theimage printed. Image Quality:Not great...but not the worst I have seen either...The pictures Iprinted from my camera (via USB connection) looked better than mypictures from my cell phone, but this was likely due to the highermegapixel image created by my camera versus the 1 megapixel image frommy cell phone. You can make photo luggage tags,cards and much, much more. If you don't need the highest quality image, but want to do somefun, creative stuff with photographs I would definitely recommend thePoGo. If you are a photographer hoping that the PoGo would give you aquick "proof" of what your printed images will look like, then thisprinter is probably not for you, since the image quality is not as goodas you could get with some standard ink jet printers. Have fun...Finally, instant pictures again!Iused to take my old Polaroid on every trip and give people a picture ofthemselves and while they were admiring it would snap anotherpicture--they were always smiling in that second picture. Creativity BoosterSometimes as a Photography student i dont feel that creative. Withassignments in school running on a tight schedule; i can become burnedout. My Lomography notebook will help with my work out of school. I'veread the tips and hints provided. Dream about the location du jourevery time i open the book. I'm quite excited to have the LomographyNotebook. Great InspirationWhen I placed my order, I was told it wouldn't be delivered untilmid-July, however I received an email update saying it would arrivesooner. One day later, it was sitting at my front door. I couldn't behappier.The book is about an inch thick, has a four year calendar, and anindex of "Lomo Embassies", shops, cameras, and accessories. Each pagelists a "mission" and location of the day to inspire you to get outthere and "shoot from the hip". Also, every double page has a tip ortrick to help you take better, more interesting photos.The ONLY reason I didn't score this 5 out of 5 is because it kindof smells funny. It's a strong odor when you first take it out of theplastic wrap... kind of like a new shower curtain liner. Maybe it's theglue?? I don't know but it gave me a headache and I had to stick it ina container with baking soda to get the smell to fade. Otherwise, it'sa neat book and I'm very excited to get started on the missions.Fun, but a bit disappointingFirst, I'd like to admit that I like to feel unfettered by myjournals. In the beginning, I felt like I had to summarize myjournaling to one page per day; which I often cannot do. The first fewweeks that I used the Lomography Notebook it made me feel restricted,sad even. The Lomo "action sampler" is sold as a seque3nce camera for sports photography, but don't let that fool you. Sure, you *could* use it that way- but why bother when there are so many much more fun things you can do with it?What this box does is shoot four pictures in sequence on one 35mm frame; when you take your film in to get processed, you'll get prints with four images, taken over about 2 seconds. I bought an ealier version a couple years ago, and I must have run 20 rolls of film through it the first two months I had it.
Here's a few of the things I tried with mine:
1. Shoot it while running down the street.
2. Tape different pieces of tinted plastic over the lenses
3. Rotate the camera while shooting, at different speeds.
4. Run up to you friends, trigger the shutter and yell "start talking! "
Get the picture? It's a platform for experimentation and fun. Get one and go crazy.

Hello, my name is Mark - and I have a problem with buying cameras.
Thats right, ever since around last april I have been binging on toy cameras - from the joycam to my latest, and most welcome addition, the lomo action sampler. I'll tell you, at first I was weary of buying this camera, with no flash, for close to 40 dollars. Out on a whim, and with the extra cash, I grabbed the credit card and decided to purchase it.
The camera actually came rather fast - and the minute I got it I ripped it open and popped in one of the 2 rolls of film they already supply you. Because they are 200 ASP I went outside and took some shots. First I just ran, then I took one of me on a swing set, etc. etc. Before you knew it, I was done with a roll of film!
Now the part I dreaded - rewinding! Now I know, I know its not that hard. But I've been living it in high style. My nice electric cameras have been doing the trick - rewinding right as I finish! How convenient! I never had to turn the dial before, or press the button at the bottom to release the film. But honestly, it was easy as can be.
So it's two days later, I grab the film and send it away to 1 hour film developing at walmart (Yes, walmart WILL develop your lomo film). An hour later I received the pictures. My heart pounding, I opened the package and looked at the first one - nothing but the best! My pictures came out wonderful and I couldn't be pleased more. Now I keep hearing about how its hard to get a nice lomo camera, without the colors on the frames. In a way, I was hoping I had one or two of those. I think they enhance the uniqueness in the photo. If you think otherwise, perhaps the lomo action sampler is not for you.
While at Walmart, I grabbed an 800 speed film for my camera. Supposedly, these will now allow me to take pictures inside, with much lighting, without the flash. I'm excited to use it, and develop a few more pictures!
Oh and yes, the camera is somewhat delicate. Be careful with your lomo, and treat it like a baby!

The Action Sampler uses normal 35mm film but needs plenty of light (outdoor photos turn out the best), so if you want to use it indoors, we recommend using a higher-speed film (ISO 400 or higher).

I picked up an Actionsampler when it first came out in 2000 or so. As everyone says, and the Amazon review confirms, the shots are lo-fi and junky. It's fun if you're into that look, and it does its job well in bright sunlight.

In my humble opinion, you should spend the extra scheckels and trade up to the Actionsampler Flash. It has better lenses, better exposure, and a fierce 4-step sequential flash. With that, you can "sample the action" at any time, day or night.

I've had this camera for a few years, and it's great fun. The editorial review is accurate- don't expect great pictures, but almost any subject can become strangely compelling when captured by this camera. My own favourite photos came from a nighttime visit to a carnival- the pics were surreal! I've found that being within 3-8 feet of the subject is best, and use film that's rated to your light conditions. The big secret to successful photos is to move the camera strongly while you are taking the picture (or have your subject moving). The resulting photos are all slightly different, off centre and skewed.
The more you experiment, the more fun you'll have. Just remember to warn your developer that these photos are going to come out a little 'differently' than usual!

This camera is just fun. There are websites that will provide you with some fun ideas with it. We took it outside and tossed it to each other once we pressed the button. We also just walked with it and aimed it at our feet.

The kids who are ages 5 and under when we bought it played with this and didn't break it so it was sturdier than it might seem. It is easy to use and fun.

The only comment I'd make is that it goes fast. Once you push the button you don't have time to blink before it's over.

A fun "toy" for photography enthusiasts
I bought a Lomo Action Sampler for a college class several years ago, and quickly became hooked. Simply stated, this is a fun photography "toy'", suitable for every age and skill level. I enjoy using non-digital cameras, and this one produces some unique and beautiful images. There is no flash, so using the camera in bright daylight works best, but I have been able to create some great images in "less than ideal" conditions by using different types of film.

My only complaint is that it's a bit too easy to accidentally expose the film because of the ease of opening the camera body. However, a piece of tape placed over the open button does the trick!

Four shots of funThis guy was a long time coming. I got the original Actionsampler afew years ago, and always wanted to shoot it indoors. Alas, all of myattempts came out pretty grainy and dark.Enter the Actionsampler Flash. I've been basically married to thisbuzzing little thing - it's awesome! The mechanics are smoother and theimages are a lot sharper then the original Actionsampler. And, thefour-step flash is great - it's fast as lighting and surprisinglystrong. This item is really dope at a concert or party.A few suggestions for prospective buyers...1. Definitely buy this over the original Actionsampler. It's like night and day.2. Use 400 or 800 speed film - that shutter moves fast, and anything slower might blur your images (unless you like that).3. WAIT for the flash to charge fully and the ready light to comeon. It can take about 12 seconds or so. If you fire before the flash isrecycled, then one element might not flash and you'll get a blackframe.Exciting Way to Take PicturesIf you are looking for a fun, exciting new way to take pictures, definitely give the Lomography Action Sampler a try. What you getis a photo that is in quarters, so four little photos in one all takenrapidly (they say one second!) apart from each other in sequence. My processing place told me that a lot of times theyjust try to make sure the center of the print is in focus whileprocessing, but with this film the center is four corners of yourpictures (hope that makes sense!) so it takes a little more effort onthe technicians part to get good prints from your negatives. All in all, I am absolutely in love with my Lomo Action Sampler. Ittravels in my purse daily and I get some great shots! I couldn't askfor anything more.One trick ponyOkay, let's be clear about something. The Action Sampler is not aLomo despite it's being sold and branded by Lomography.com. It IS a toycamera. What you get are 4 frames, each timed 1/200 of a second aparton one frame of 35mm film. You do not get focus, ASA/ISO controls, shutter speed controls oranything other than a very basic light sensor that determines whetheror not the flash fires and the flash itself which is supposedlysynchronized to the shutter, although I'm not convinced that itactually is.The four frames are cool but that's this camera's one trick. It'sall it does. The optics are terrible quality. If you're old enough toremember the old Instamatic cameras with the 110 film cartridges andthe terrible resolution they had, well, this will make you feel alldated and nostaligic.That said, this camera is a blast. You can take pictures ofmovement but because the lenses all point in slightly differentdirections, it's you can shoot still images and get 4 very differentphotos to choose from. And if you like the lo-fi picture quality or thesubtle Andy Warhol-esque look of your new 4 framed pictures and don'tcare too much about getting a really good picture, you'll have awonderful time.The lenses are focused at "infinity" meaning everything after a fewfeet is in in focus. Close-up/macro stuff is out of the question. Asfar as ASA/ISO, I use 1600 or 800 and have it pushed one stop in thelab (effectively making it 1600 with artifacts) or the pictures comeout too dim in anything other than the brightest sunlight. That'sright, indoor shooting or shooting in the shade is out unless you usereally fast film, which also degrades the detail quality.Like the Lomo LC-A and LC-A+, there is a little vignetting but thisis not a Lomo and you shouldn't order one thinking that it is. The LomoLC-A is it's own delightfully weird little camera and takes brilliantshots that put this little toy to shame. The action sampler is alsoabout twice as big as a real Lomo.Think of the Action Sampler as a great nearly disposable party/roadtrip camera. More fun to use with your friends than alone. If I lostmine, I am not certain if I would replace it but I have seriouslyconsidered buying a bunch and giving them out as stocking stuffers nextholiday season.This is a 2.5 star camera but I'm giving it a 3rd star because ofhow much fun it can be. Not a serious camera but a really fun toy.

Crazy and FunI love the Supersampler. I definitely prefer its panoramic formatand much sharper image rendition to the original four-lensedActionsampler. It's really fun to play and experiment with. MySupersampler is going on 10 rolls without a hitch.However, if you yank the thing, it will definitely come out. The greatest camera ever!I bought the yellow one a few weeks back and absolutely loved it!My pictures turned out great! While you can get the film developed at aBig Box Store, my advice is don't. While the pics you get back willhave the yellow (or other color) tint, the color isn't as true as itwould be if you went to a camera shop and had them develop the photos.It's a fun little camera and I recommend it for anyone who wants totake funky photos. It came with easyinstructions to re-use it and I'd also like to note that you don't HAVEto use the colored film over the flash. I'm nowordering the Green one with Red and Yellow next on my list. piece of crap for the money.i bought a red and blue one and the flash worked twice on the bluebefore it stopped and it won't even flash on my red one. the photosturned out granular and horrible. only about 3 turned out completely. idon't think that it's worth the money, you're much better off buying aregular disposable and putting a piece of blue plastic in front of theflash.

Don't pay $50 for this cameraMy main point in writing this review is that you can get this camera for much, much cheaper by buying it used or elsewhere.The Holga is fun and I know many people who swear by it. While Ipersonally have never been extremely into lomography/"plasticfantastic" cameras, if you are this is a good camera and the advantageof using medium format film is wonderful. Also there are scores ofwebsites that will tell you all the ways you can modify your Holga. Sohave fun! But seriously, there's almost no reason why not to buy thisitem used. I would not pay more than $20 for it.Simple fun photographyI've been seriously into photography since 1999. I've had a fewpictures published in magazines and I've even had some embassies buy mywork. My best personalphoto's have come from a Holga and it was all when I was just flippingaway and not worrying too much about the composition of the shot or theexposure. The color flash adds another spin to an already fun camera. Ilove to use the flash in the daytime up close to my subjects (The blueflash on the beach gives an awesome feel to a photo).My only complaint is the hassle of loading and unloading the filmand the cheap feel to it, but then again it's a 'toy' camera so I guessthat's part of the experince.I recomend this (more so with the 35mm version) to anyone just looking to bring fun back into their photography.Holga fan!!These camera's are great for enthusiasts! I gifted my roomate thisone for christmas (as I already own one, and she borrows it from timeto time). We are both photo majors, and it's easy to get swept up innew technology. Sometimes its benificial to go back to your roots ;)

cheapo but neatoJust got my first roll back of Supersampler photos. The camera isextremely fragile and cheap in feel and in cost and is the antithesisof the Canon 300D I usually shoot with. But the results are just sodifferent and cool, it's well worth the investment. The total lack ofcontrols (even a viewfinder!) makes every picture a guess, and makesthe results even more rewarding. I strongly recommend it if you want aninexpensive alternative to the precision you're used to.Fun while it lasted . . . I bought this as a present for my room mate and he took somepictures and it was fun, but halfway through the first roll of film thestring (which is the shutter release) broke. We are still waiting for a replacement after we sent it back to the company . . .I love you, SupersamplerI really enjoy this camera. It is cheaply made and I feel like Ihave to be very careful not to break it especially while advancing thefilm but it takes some great pictures. On a roll of 24 I had about 1/2a roll of great photos. It's a lot of fun and experiment with. Thepackaging is very cool and it somes with a little book of photos takenwith the camera that are really neat.

Fun flashThis is a nice flash for messing around with. It only uses one AA battery and charges pretty fast. Fits standard hot shoe. You can also put a standard camera on'bulb' and fire the flash manually using a bunch of different colors.Just reduce the aperture say 4 stops and fire the flash five or sixtimes in different locations and different colors. Since you can seeyour results on the screen it's a really powerful little addition topicture taking. Also don't forget you can just use a slave trigger tomake the thing light up a backdrop or use it as a hair highlight on aflash stand along with more traditional studio flash units. Yeah - it'sno different from a colored gel on a studio flash unit, but it is moreportable and it's cheap enough to tape on a stick on location wherestudio lights are out of the question.

It really worksI just opened my new Pop 9 and was a bit surprised. It's made ofcheap gold plastic- REALLY cheap. The "lens cap" has a tiny plastichandle to pry it off- it's already almost broken off. The film is alittle tricky to engage too. However, I just got back my first set ofprints, and they're great! Not a blurry shot in the bunch, no matterhow close up I took the photo. The view finder is off-kilter, but afterone roll you can pretty much see how to adapt. I love it! Fun fun fun.I can't wait to take more shots. There are so many possibilities withthis camera!Instant WarholThis low-frills camera delivers arty photos at the press of abutton. No need to focus. Just turn on the flash and shoot away. Keepin mind that what you see through the viewfinder is a smaller portionof the image you are capturing. I have not been disappointedwith this fun camera.
